Petition for Democracy and No New Tax Cuts

Dear Gov. Hobbs and AZ Lawmakers,

We must protect our Constitutional right to make our own laws as citizens.

Please stop bills that violate our state rights to bring a question to the people at the ballot box.

Please vote, "NO" on HB2873 with the striker to allow a city clerk to cancel an election if one PAC asks the clerk for the petitions back. When we citizens sign a petition to call for an election,  we have a right for that election to happen when enough signatures have been gathered.  The people of the town of Marana gathered enough signatures to bring a question about a data center to the ballot for the voters to decide.  But HB2873 would allow one Political Action Committee to cancel that election.

HB2873 would apply to all cities and towns and it violates our Constitutional Right.

Gov. Hobbs, please VETO HB2873 if it reaches your desk

Data centers cost more in water, electricity, extreme heat, and noise than they are worth.  We use them and we need solutions for regulating them now, but we cannot let them ruin neighborhoods without reforms.

Please Repeal the data center tax incentives now to save $38 mil this year and avoid losing hundreds of millions yearly as more data centers open in Arizona. There might have been a time when the incentives made sense, but now they are outrageously wrong.  The temporary construction jobs to build them are not worth the long-term problems they pose, at this time.

End the Gas Tax?  - Read more ...

For the state budget this year No new tax cuts and fix or END the Gas Tax.

We only have discretionary funds of about $378 mil – to be spread over 3 years!

We Must fix our school buildings, pay for caregivers for those with disabilities, and cover basic healthcare for state employees.
That uses up all of the $378 mil in just 1 year.   We have ZERO money for tax cuts.   Billionaire_ruckus_Red_X_2025-0412.png

Support education, childcare, and safety.  No new tax cuts!

To avoid cutting jobs and cutting pay for teachers and safety,  please consider a FAIR new revenue source,  not a general sales tax.

1- Tax the Billionaires who have sports-betting licenses!  It will not affect the people who place bets on the apps at all.

The big sports-betting apps should pay higher fees for their profits in the gambling industry.

    •  They do not contribute to the Division of Problem Gambling at all with current law.  That division helps people who have hurt their families and themselves because of their addiction to gambling. The gambling app empires should pay into that fund.
    •  The big apps only pay a paltry 10%  now. That is not fair to the people of Arizona.  Other states get twice or 4 times that much from sports-betting license-owner billionaires.

This tax should not affect the tribes because they are generally much smaller operations - not billionaires.

2- Gas Tax?  We do not like it,  but we have to repair our roads.

Please have serious discussions to solve the problem of the unfair, and inadequate HURF, Highway User Revenue Fund.

Electric vehicles pay sales tax on electricity, but that does not go to the HURF.  We need something new.
Here's an idea from Democrats:

END THE GAS TAX,  and replace it with a more fair way to pay for roads.

Consider a tiny rate of income tax especially for HURF. The more income you have, the more you have benefitted from Arizona's roads, so it's fair.

Average taxpayers would pay maybe HALF of what they pay in gas tax now,  and billionaires would pay more because they have benefited more.

Please work through an economic analysis of this option. Real leaders bring up new ideas with economic evidence to the people, and listen.

Please do NOT balance the budget with fund sweeps and accounting gimmicks.  Those tactics have been used far too much and have caused our budget problems now.

Thank you for reading this petition.
